History of Daytona State College

Daytona State College was one of the first colleges in 1957 and was called the Daytona Beach Junior College. During the time it had three divisions

  2. Adult education
  3. The Mary Karl Vocational School 

All of the divisions worked independently of each other but were governed by the college president. After some time Volusia County Junior College was established for African Americans but was closed in 1967. In 1968 Daytona beach junior College all the three divisions were combined as one and in 1971 the college changed its name to Daytona Beach Community College.

It became a four-year college in 2006 and during this time it offered its first bachelor’s degree in bachelor of applied science in supervision and management. The college was renamed Daytona Beach College in 2008 and after a month again renamed Daytona State College. In the following years, it added more programs and courses to its list.

Requirements for the Bachelor of Applied Science – Supervision and Management

The students must have earned an associate degree. Students with an AA degree and have core education credits completed must have 18 credits in occupational or technical areas. Requirements for the Bachelor of Science (Education Program)

Associate of Arts degree from a regionally accredited institution and 2.5 GPA in all higher education classes.

Admission Requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology

Applicants must have an associate’s degree in science, applied science, or arts with an overall GPA of 2.5. Students with the GPAs 2.0 – 2.49 may be accepted based on some condition. If the student does not have a degree must at least have 60 BEST transferable college credits with a grade of C.

Requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

Students who apply must have an associate degree in science, arts, or applied science with an overall GPA of 2.5, or students without a degree must have at least 60 BSIT transferrable credits with a grade of “C”.

Requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Students applying must have an associate degree in science or diploma in nursing or a diploma equal to AS nursing degree and a minimum of 2.5 GPA. 

AdmRequirements for Adult Education:

Students must be 16 years old and must provide a student ID or identity from the Department of Motor Vehicles (Florida) and Official transcripts from the last high school attended.
