Furman Admission Requirements and GPA

Application Essay

Your Furman application essay is one of the most important requirements you need to gain admission into the Furman University. To write a good college application essay, make sure to express yourself uniquely without having to repeat what is already written in the other parts of your application. If it’s possible, get a high-placed teacher to recommend you -this won’t be difficult if you were good in school. But if you weren’t, don’t sweat it, just mention your high school rank because that too is considered.

Remember that students with compelling application essays will be considered even if they have grades that are below the pass mark. While the admission of this group of persons isn’t assured, be sure to simply stand out through your essay.

Speaking of grades, let’s talk about the GPA and test scores that you need to get into Furman university.

Gpa:

One of the main reasons why Furman University is “prestigious” is because of the requirements of GPA score of its applicants to get their admission. This GPA score ranges from 3.5 to 3.95 with an average score of 3.75 as was used in the past 4years.

The stats are a bit different for transfer students who are required to have a minimum of 3.0 GPA and 16 credits. For validity, you’ll be required to submit an official High School Transcript and a school report -if possible. Graduate applicants on the other hand are required to attach official evidence of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

Test Scores:

It is not mandatory to take any standardized test requirements -SAT or ACT, however, they will be considered if you have outstanding scores. By outstanding scores, Furman expects its applicants to have an SAT score that falls between 1250(25th percentile) and 1400(75th percentile); and an ACT score that falls between 28(25th percentile) and 32(75th percentile).

Let’s break it down some more

If you have an SAT score that is below 999, then there is a 0% chance of your getting into Furman University. On the other hand, applicants that have an SAT score between 1000 and 1199 have a 7% chance while the stars that score 1200 and above have up to 70% chance of getting into the Furman college.

Meanwhile, international students are required to submit evidence of their English proficiency skills. This test score should either be a minimum TOEFL score of 100 (for internet-based) and 620 (for paper-based) or a minimum IELTS score of 7.0

Meanwhile, like the SAT and ACT tests, college prep courses are not required but can be considered. The good news is that the admissions committee at Furman University assures applicants that they will only select test scores that give an applicant a greater admission advantage.

Extracurriculars

Another Furman application requirement that will make you stand out from the crowd is the extracurricular activity section. To fulfill its mission, the admissions committee of Furman University prioritizes applicants that provide information about their non-academic programs that complements their school activities.

According to the university, these co-curricular activities highlight students’ leadership skills, civic engagement, and commitment. So, if you haven’t, join your school band, or sports team, do community service, or volunteer at a good organization and add that information to your application.

Bonus

Here are a few extras that you might want to be careful with while applying for Furman.

First of all, you need to apply before the deadline. Note that Furman does not offer conditional admission, but allows for early decision and early action options. Applicants that want to offer art and music-based courses as their major will be required to take auditions as part of the application process.
