Benedictine College is a free arts college located in Atchison, Kansas United States. The college was founded in 1971 with the merger of St. Benedicts College, Men’s College and St. Scholastica’s College, a women’s college. Prior to the establishment of the college, Archbishop John B. Miege, S.J., Vicar Apostolic of Leavenworth enlisted the help of a Catholic to establish a college in Atchison. At the request, two Benedictine pastors arrived in Atchison from Doniphan and opened St. Paul’s College. In 1924, Mount St. Scholastica’s Junior College was opened to young women to further their education. The two colleges later merged together and formed a prominent Benedictine college in July, 1971.
