The University of Illinois at Springfield (UIS) is a public liberal arts university located in Springfield, Illinois. While UIS does not have traditional sororities on campus, it does offer a number of student organizations that provide opportunities for students to connect with others who share similar interests or identities.

One such organization is the Women’s Issues Caucus (WIC), which is a student-led group that aims to promote gender equality and women’s rights on campus. The WIC provides opportunities for networking, social events, and community service projects that help to support the academic and personal success of its members.
Another group that provides a similar experience to traditional sororities is the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA). AKA is a national sorority that has a graduate chapter in Springfield. The organization’s mission is to promote scholarship, leadership, and service among its members. AKA supports a number of national philanthropies, including the American Heart Association and the Alzheimer’s Association.
In addition to the AKA graduate chapter, there are a number of other student organizations at UIS that provide opportunities for students to connect with others who share similar interests or identities. These organizations include but are not limited to:
- Black Student Union: A group dedicated to promoting the interests and well-being of Black students on campus.
- UIS Pride: A group that provides support and advocacy for LGBTQ+ students on campus.
- Asian Student Organization: A group that celebrates Asian culture and provides a space for students to connect with other students who share similar backgrounds and experiences.
- Women Empowered to Achieve Greatness (WEAG): A group that promotes women’s empowerment and gender equality on campus.
Overall, while UIS does not have traditional sororities, the school does offer a number of student-led organizations that provide similar experiences for students who are looking for a sense of community and belonging. These groups are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion on campus and offer a range of opportunities for students to connect with others who share similar interests or identities.
