To be eligible for selection into UCR, one must have a GPA of at least 3.0 (for residents) and 3.4 (non-residents) on the scale of 4.0 in the A-G courses taken during grades 10 and 11: ● Social Sciences 

● English Language 

● Mathematics 

● Laboratory Science 

● Language 

● Visual and Performing arts 

● College preparatory Elective 

UCR will not accept SAT or ACT test scores during selection or awarding scholarships. 

Requirements for Non-residents 

Out-of-state students and out-of-state transfer students are also allowed to apply to UCR but must meet necessary requirements. 

Minimum GPA requirement for out-of-state students is higher than that of out-of-state transfer students. 

● Residents =3.0 

● Out-of-state students =3.4 

● Transfer students = 2.8 

For you to be considered for selection as a transfer student, you must have done a total of 60 semester units of transferable college credit with at least a 2.8 GPA. 

Although, some major programs require higher than the minimum GPA for admission. 

Community College Classes Required for Transfer Students 

● The seven-course pattern must be completed before enrolling. 

● 4 transferable courses from arts, social sciences, or biological and physical sciences. ● 2 transferable courses in English composition 

● 1 transferable course in Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning 

International applicants should consider meeting the visa and United States entry requirements first before applying to UCR online. 

Requirements for International Applicants 

Students who do not reside permanently or are not citizens of the United States willing to apply can also do so following the requirements. As an international applicant, you can apply to UCR as a freshman or a transfer student, depending on your educational qualifications. 

Requirements for Freshman Applicants

A freshman applicant is a student who has completed his/her secondary school education and has never been enrolled in any University with a certificate to prove it. As a freshman applicant, you must have: 

1. Completed 15-year academic courses with a minimum GPA of 3.4 on a scale of 4.0. 2. Competence in the English Language: 

If you completed your secondary school in a country where English is not their official language, then you can take one of the following exams in your final year in secondary school with the required scores: 

● ACT English Language Arts- 24 and above. 

● Writing and Language (SAT)- 31 and above. 

● AP exam in English and Composition or Literature and Composition- 3, 4, or 5. ● International Baccalaureate Standard Level exam in English – 6, or 7. ● Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 

○ Computer-based test (CBT): 80 and above. 

○ CBT Home Edition: 80 and above. 

○ Paper-based test: 80 and above. 

○ Duolingo English Test (DET): 115 and above. 

● International Baccalaureate Higher Level exam in English – 5, or 6, or 7. ● International English Language Testing System- 7 and above. 

● International English Language Testing System Indicator- 7 and above. 

Requirements for a Transfer Student 

Anybody can transfer, even if you are enrolled in a regular session at a college after secondary school graduation, except you are taking summer classes. 

If you are applying as a junior-level transfer student, then following the requirements below is all you need to be considered for selection: 

● Complete the 7- course pattern below by the end of spring term: 

● 2 transferable courses in English composition. 

● 1 transferable course in mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning. ● 4 transferable college courses selecting at least two of the following subject areas: ○ arts and humanities. 

○ social and behavioral sciences. 

○ physical and biological sciences. 

● You must also complete nothing less than 60 semester units of transferable credit. ● You must have nothing less than a 2.4 GPA in UC transferable courses (2.8 for non-residents) 

● You must complete the required courses needed for your desired major with the minimum grades. 


● Not all courses are UC transferable. Make sure the course is UC transferable and they are worth at least 3-semester units. 

● Make sure you complete Math and English early before enrolling. 

● Have a good GPA (2.00 or above) at the previous college/university you attended before enrolling.


Your country and educational system would determine if you would be asked for additional admission requirements. You must also have nothing less than a C in each course or a P which means Pass if a P is equivalent to C according to the educational system in your school or country.
