The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a public research land-grant research university in San Francisco, California. It was established in 1864.Its facilities were situated at Berkeley and San Francisco. The former name of the University was Toland Medical College (1864). The founder of the University was Hugh Toland. In 1964, the school acquired administrative independence as a campus of the UC system led by a chancellor, and in 1970 it got its current name.

The budget of the University was $8.0 billion in 2020. Its chancellor is Sam Hawgood and its Vice-chancellor is Daniel Lowenstein. Its official newspaper is Synapse. It is spread over 55 acres.
