Recently ULCA has taken a decision on giving a student the right to decide on grading decision from Spring 2022. Previous, the students are required to take 10 P/NP courses if they haven’t taken 5 P/NP courses in previous term. From, Spring 2022, the academic senate has decided to change the grading basis based on student’s interests. But this works with the following conditions:
- Every student is required to contact the academic supervisor if the course have this option.
- Courses which are under P/NP grading are not considered in UG courses.
- Students should have minimum academic grading (with 2.0 GPA or quarterly GPA)
- Every student is required check with the academic section if the P/NP course can be taken. Some courses are required to have a recommendation letter.
- Students who take courses for honour credit are required to have a letter from the college and B grade or more to get the credit. This condition is not compulsory for
- If the student has gotten C- grade for a P/NP course, he/she is required to retake the course on a letter-based condition from the department. The student who has retaken the course is not given any credit for the course respectively.
- A grade of C is considered as passed for the module course taken. A grade less than C, C- or less is considered as Not passed and the student is required to retake the course.
- Student’s requirements like elective, general education is satisfied but the course is not given any credit.
- Law students are required to keep in mind that, Law schools consider Not pass as F for academic conditions.
- A pass will not affect CGPA of the student and not considered in academic purposes.
- Students interested in applying to professional schools should contact the schools directly. To be safe, students should attend relevant courses on a graded basis in the professional school.
- Students will not receive a GPA at the conclusion of the quarter if all courses are taken Pass/Not Passed, which may affect Financial Aid or scholarships.
Incompletes:
Students sometimes may not complete a small portion of course like term paper/assignment. If the student is passing working hard and passed every module by missing a small portion due to illness, the student’s course is considered as “incomplete”.
Student is required to do any of the following tasks when he/she can’t complete the course:
- The student can request the professor for an opportunity to re-complete the course.
- Student can complete the unfinished work in next quarter term.
- Student should not re enroll the course, if the course is considered as incomplete.
- He/she can request the instructor to not mark the course as incomplete, but it’s up to professor’s wish to do as he wishes with an incomplete course.
- Requesting a petition:
If the student couldn’t complete the incomplete course in the next quarter, the student can request a petition to extend the time to complete an incomplete course.
This requires a letter from the professor agreeing to an extension.
