The University of Arkansas is the largest in the state of Arkansas and was founded in the year 1871 by President Abraham Lincoln who signed into law the Morrill Land Grant Colleges Act, which offered states federal land to sell and use the proceedings to build educational institutions. It was first called the Arkansas Industrial University before the name was changed by President John Lee Buchanan in 1899. It is located in Fayetteville, Arkansas with the motto “Veritate duce Progedi” A Latin word that translates in English as, “To Advance With Truth as our Leader.”
