Whittier College is a private liberal arts college located in Whittier, California. The college offers a range of opportunities for students to get involved in extracurricular activities, including Greek life. Sororities are an important part of the Greek community at Whittier College, and they offer students the chance to build lifelong friendships, develop leadership skills, and participate in a variety of service and philanthropic activities.

There are currently three active sororities at Whittier College: Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Phi, and Sigma Kappa. Each sorority has its own unique history, values, and traditions.
Alpha Delta Pi was founded in 1851 at Wesleyan Female College in Macon, Georgia. The sorority’s colors are azure blue and white, and its symbol is the diamond. The sorority’s motto is “We Live for Each Other,” and its philanthropic focus is the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Alpha Phi was founded in 1872 at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. The sorority’s colors are bordeaux and silver, and its symbol is the ivy leaf. Alpha Phi’s motto is “Union Hand in Hand,” and its philanthropic focus is women’s heart health.
Sigma Kappa was founded in 1874 at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. The sorority’s colors are maroon and lavender, and its symbol is the heart. Sigma Kappa’s motto is “One Heart, One Way,” and its philanthropic focus is Alzheimer’s disease research and awareness.
Each sorority has its own chapter at Whittier College, and they are all members of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). The NPC is the governing body for 26 national and international sororities, and it promotes values-based recruitment and membership policies.
To join a sorority at Whittier College, students must participate in the formal recruitment process, which takes place in the fall semester. During recruitment, students have the opportunity to meet members of each sorority, learn about their values and philanthropic efforts, and decide which sorority is the best fit for them. After recruitment, students who receive bids from sororities may choose to accept or decline them.
Once students become members of a sorority, they participate in a variety of activities and events throughout the year. These may include sisterhood events, social events with other Greek organizations, community service projects, and philanthropic fundraisers. Sorority members are also expected to maintain a certain GPA and abide by their sorority’s values and standards.
Sororities at Whittier College offer students a unique opportunity to become part of a close-knit community, develop leadership skills, and give back to their local and global communities through philanthropic efforts. They are an integral part of the college’s vibrant Greek life community and provide students with the opportunity to create lifelong friendships and memories.
