New York Film Academy (NYFA) is a private acting school situated in New York City, Los Angeles, founded by Jerry Sherlock in 1992. NYFA welcomes students from all over the world. Audition Requirements New York Film Academy
Prospective students must apply to qualify for the acting degree courses. You can fill out an application online or bring it to the audition. Students must prepare two modern monologues, one from a play and one from a screenplay. Monologues should be 60-90 seconds with one emotional and one funny. Choose monologues that seem age appropriate and help you express your individuality while also highlighting your talents. Monologues that are too sexual, vulgar, aggressive, or suicidal should be avoided.

- Begin by introducing yourself and mentioning your name and the title of the material you will be performing.
- Locate your camera at a proper place where you may direct your piece. Look neither into the camera nor above or below it.
- You must capture your entire body and not just your face. Ensure that we can hear and see you.
- Avoid using white sceneries or backgrounds with distracting patterns. For auditions, neutral shades are preferred. Also, keep track of what you’re wearing. If your backdrop is grey, don’t wear a grey shirt.
- Dress in a way that doesn’t distract from your performance. Do not wear anything that will cover your face from the camera.
- Lastly, enjoy the performance. It will demonstrate your dedication to acting and allow the actual you to shine through.

Tuition Assistance
Tuition Assistance is intended to assist candidates having financial needs in lowering the cost of tuition. Applicants must demonstrate a genuine need for assistance by providing proof of tax returns or bank statements. In addition, applicants must write an essay detailing their needs and achievements.

1. Talent Based Award is a program that identifies applicants who have an extraordinary ability for their chosen program. The awards are decided based on an individual’s audition or portfolio throughout the enrollment.
2. Merit-Based Award is given to candidates who have applied to a Bachelor’s program. Applicants are assessed based on information submitted throughout the enrollment, such as their high school Grades and verification of management positions, community service, or cultural participation.
Scholarships
The Matthew Modine Masters Scholarship is given to outstanding students pursuing a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Filmmaking on Acting for Film at the school. The recipients must exhibit the academy’s principles to advance the practice of cinematic storytelling. Every year 5-10 scholarships are given out. Scholarships are awarded based on the audition, academic experience, recommendation letters, undergraduate academic performance, interview, and proof of leadership, community service, and cultural participation presented throughout the admissions process.
