Is Hofstra An Ivy League School?

Is Hofstra An Ivy League School?

What makes some schools Ivy League and what is their history?

Ivy League is not just a term, it is a name renowned for its exclusivity, which those who are affiliated with it take great pride in. It was formed in the year 1954, though this wasn’t tied to its academic prowess initially. It was anchored on their strong sporting capabilities in the brown ball game. However, only a few top private universities could cut back then.

For the sake of strict factual accuracy, the academic institutions are Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale. Another stark uniqueness they all have is this; they are all located in the Northeastern region of the United States.

To secure admission into any of these Ivy League Schools is akin to passing through an eye of a needle. Not in a walk in the park. To be admitted to an Ivy League school, applicants are required to possess greater test scores and excellent grades. They must show themselves approved.

Just to be abundantly clear, over the years, these schools have been able to churn out alums.

These alums wear the badge of their schools with great delight and they have been able to form a great camaraderie with each other post-graduation.

Hence, a very large alumni community. It is also of note that graduates from the University of Pennsylvania – a member of the Ivy League are the most sought after in the United States’ labor market.

Can Hofstra University ever be part of the Ivy League Schools?

This is quite an interesting question. As there have been some unfounded rumors over the years that the almighty Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was included in the Ivy Leagues.

However, our findings revealed that they were only part of the Ivy Overlap Group, and this was only made up of the Ivy League Schools and just MIT! This was in the year 1991. If MIT could not be admitted into the Ivy League Schools, Hofstra didn’t stand a chance. For the record, Ivy Overlap Group is not an Ivy League school.

So, the Ivy League – the big 8 remains solid with an admission acceptance rate that is less than 12%, while Hofstra University has a 69.1% acceptance rate!

What if the Ivy League Schools throw their doors open?

They still won’t be accepted. And there is a reason for that.

At the time of writing this, and with the kind of information we are exposed to at the moment, should Ivy League Schools throw their doors open, Hofstra University would still find it difficult to tie the shoelace of the big guns.
