Is American River College A Good School?

About American River College

   The American River College is a public community college established in 1955 and located in Sacramento, California, United States. The college basement is in a suburban region. The university’s parent institution is the Los Rois Community College District. It has a total space of the 155-acre site. The  American River College period of completion of its educational training ranges from 12 months to 2 years. The  American River College president is Melanie Dixon. The university had 42,141 students during the 2013-2014 academic session. The university’s color is green, white, and red. Its mascot is called the Beavers. 

   In 1955, the American River College was established as the American Junior College. In 1958, it moved to its current location where it acquired eight new office complexes and the Cameron ranch house being it’s original. The school became part of the Los Rois Community college District in 1965 and had its name changed to American River College.

In 1984, American River College published its literary journal review which is the American River Review, which has since then won different national awards and recognitions to the school. The Columbia Scholastic Press Association awarded the college Gold Crowns. The school received the National Peacemaker Awards from the Associated Collegiate Press.

   UC Davis and  CSU  Sacramento receive more transfer students from American River College than other community colleges. The non-transferable students have the option to enroll for continuing education credit, certification in technical/vocational programs, or personal enrichment. 

   Three different types of online learning are taken by the college which are; hybrid, online, and web-enhanced. 11 programs that provide training for 10 qualifications are offered by the college, including a Paralegal Certificate, CPA License, and California Real Estate License.

   The college has an acceptance rate of 100%. Its admission policy is open, which signifies that they accept all students that apply to the school.  The College admission requirements are; AP course credit, transcript, and dual enrollment. The college accepts applications anytime during the year and its test is optional. It accepts 96% of its in-State students.

   The cost of attending American River College is quite expensive. In 2019-2020, the cost of attending varies between the range of $12,493 & $28,314. However, students living in California are privileged to receive a discount of 87.6% off the tuition fees. 87.2% of the newly admitted students receive financial aid, with the average amount summing up to $4,484. Also, during the first year, students that come from low average income families receive an average of $7,997. 

   The cost for residents of California without aids are; tuition fees-$1,104, room and board- of $13,293, and other expenses- of $6,093, the total cost amounts to $ 20,490. At the American River College, a newly admitted student takes an average of $5,857 in loans during their first year. to help defray a freshman year average cost of $5,857 apiece, 4.0 of incoming students take out a loan.

Anthony Swofford, the author of Jarhead, and a Member of the United States House Of Representatives. Comedian, Wally Herger, The Sarah Silverman Program co-star, and many others. 

The college also has notable sports persons, part of which include; a former Major League Baseball player, Bob Oliver. A former Major League baseball player, Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs’ former manager, John Vukovich. Yet another former Major League Baseball player, and Cincinnati Reds, San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, and Washington Nationals former manager, and a lot more notable sportspeople.
