Why Are Clubs Necessary?

As students, we all wanted to join one or another club in school and college. Didn’t we? Students often like to chill after their hectic class schedule and prefer to do what they like during their free time. Having extracurricular activities in college helps them enjoy their leisure time. College clubs usually help them to spot their talents and interests.

Colleges and Universities play an important role in the development of an individual. Alongside academics, the development of a child also depends on the other facilities a college offers. Although education is the primary goal of an institution, it is also important for the institution to give other extracurricular facilities to the students. Some students may not excel academically but can succeed in other fields. These students need to be polished and groomed in their early college days to help them form a base to make a career out of their interests. College clubs help in showing the students the right path to follow their dreams. Colleges also offer academic clubs which enable the student to focus on a particular domain of academics.

Most institutions have extracurricular activities included in their education system. The college clubs also organize workshops that solely focus on the development of the students in various fields.

What Kind Of Clubs Do Colleges Have?

Different clubs focus on different fields. Some are mentioned below:

  • Political Clubs: It is believed that the young generation is the future of the country. Therefore, political clubs help in making the youth politically aware. Those students interested in politics and who want to pursue their interests here, join this club and can polish their knowledge. Political clubs can allow you to connect with party political leaders at the regional, state, and national levels.
  • Debate Clubs: Another interesting club that the majority of the institutions have is the Debate club. Debate clubs can serve as another domain for exploring the already existing political views and ideas. Students who want to opt for journalism in the future can be a part of the debating club to polish their skills.
  • Academic and educational Clubs: Academic clubs are one of the essential organizations of a college, as it focuses on an area of study. These clubs usually help students to pursue their interests in fields where they have their interests. Students can be active members of this club and simultaneously continue with their degrees. These clubs are beneficial for degree-seeking students as they help them to get professional guidance and develop their skills.
  • Media and Publication Clubs: As we all know, media is the fourth pillar of democracy. Therefore, media clubs also form an important organ for a college. They help in all the media-related activities of the college, namely; designing advertisements, website designing, and publication of a campus newspaper ( which is a must for every university), designing magazines, etc. Radio clubs, film clubs, and Animation clubs also fall under the Media and Publication clubs. Students who are interested in writing and journalism can join these clubs to enhance their skills. Furthermore, students who are interested in media studies can join this club to inculcate new skills and know more about this industry.
  • Cultural Clubs: Apart from sports, academics, and other activities, some students are culturally active. Colleges have cultural clubs that truly try to inculcate rich culture into the veins of the student in any art form. Students who are driven toward the art of music and dance are interested to join these clubs. These clubs include different forms of art. Cultural clubs also conduct workshops that can help the students to learn different types of arts and help in enriching the culture of the college.
  • Sports and Fitness Clubs: Even if a college misses the aforesaid clubs, it can never miss having a sports and fitness club. This club acts as a backbone of any college or institution. Having a sports club is a must. The sports and fitness clubs look into the overall physical activities of a student and take care of their health and fitness. Many students have excelled in sports when rightly guided in colleges and have also chosen it as their career option. Right guidance in sports works as a reinforcement in the development of the students. Therefore, extracurricular activities should always include sports. Some colleges have also segregated clubs under the sports club. For example Football clubs, Cricket clubs, chess clubs, etc.
  • Religious and Spiritual Clubs:  Colleges also comprise a religious and spiritual club that helps the students in inculcating the feeling of secularism. For instance; India is a country of various religious and cultural diversity, so students here should be taught to respect the other religions.

Students who join the spiritual clubs practice spirituality, which helps them to be calm and be in peace. They can connect to their inner soul here.

Are College Clubs Beneficial?

Yes, In the long run of the college years, every student is a part of one or the other aforesaid clubs, which interests them. These are some of the basic and common clubs that all institutions have.

Some colleges have various other clubs like the NCC club, Scouts & Guides, etc.

Not every student needs to excel in academics only. Different individuals can succeed in different fields of life. Institutions are the base of an individual’s life and success. The majority of the grooming of an individual is done in their early stage of life. Therefore, an institution must groom a particular student in such a way that they can succeed in the field in which they are interested.

To summarize, just like the tiny tissues make a human body, in the same way, these clubs are tiny bits that contribute to the overall development of an Individual.  Every college should have clubs and every college does have clubs.
