Apple Music is a membership service with no free plan. You could get a free trial for three months, but it appears that Apple has secretly cut it to one month. There are now four membership packages available for the service with the voice plan recently added. They are as follows:

  • Family: $14.99/month
  • Individual: $9.99/month
  • Student: $4.99/month
  • Voice Plan: $4.99/month

Family: This family plan can have up to six members on the plan. To use, each family member must have an account and you can share your existing music library in whatever way you desire.

Voice Plan: This plan is a recent release around October 2021 and it is one of the cheapest as can be seen from above. It is currently only available in 17 countries. It’s a more affordable version of Apple Music that you can completely control with your voice. You can listen to the whole Apple Music catalog using Apple Music Voice, but you’ll have to utilize Siri to play it. Also as a new member of Apple Music, you can say “Hey Siri, start Apple Music Voice” or touch the Voice Plan option in the Apple Music Music app on an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV to begin a seven-day free trial of Apple Music Voice.

Individual and student: These two plans share the same features and benefits. The only difference is that the eligible user of the student’s plan must be a registered student of any institution to be able to enjoy the 50% discount attached to the student’s plan. Usually, the plan can last for four (4) years. Apple has worked with UNiDAYs to ensure that customers who sign up for the student plan are actually students. To create a more juicy deal, a student will enjoy free access to the whole collection of Apple TV+ content if you use the same account. If you have an Apple Music student membership, you’ll receive a notice near the end of each year asking you to confirm your student status in the Apple Music app.

In 2016, they announced a student plan with a 50% discount on the individual plan in order to keep up with their competitors Spotify, and the number of users increased dramatically. Apple Music has already topped 78 million paid members, accounting for 15% of all global music platform subscriptions.

These offers make the student plan unique from the others;

  • 50% discount on the individual plan for 4 years
  • Free access to Apple Tv+ content for a limited time
  • Annual validation to check your student status

If you’re no longer a student or if you’ve had an Apple Music student subscription for more than 48 months, your subscription will automatically convert to an Apple Music individual subscription, and you’ll lose your free Apple TV+ access.

If you’re required to verify your student identity after launching Apple Music, but you’re no longer a student or your subscription has expired after 4 years, declare that you’re done with your University or college program to stop receiving prompts.

You’ll have to re-enroll as a student if you don’t confirm within the verification period and still have time left in your 48-month tenure.
