Seattle Pacific University (SPU) is a private, Christian university located in Seattle, Washington. SPU is known for its strong commitment to academic excellence, spiritual growth, and service to the community. One aspect of the university’s student life that is of interest to many prospective students is its sorority system.

SPU currently has three sororities on campus: Alpha Kappa Delta Phi (AKDPhi), Alpha Tau Omega (ATO), and Sigma Phi Lambda (SPL). Each sorority has its own unique history, values, and membership requirements.
Alpha Kappa Delta Phi (AKDPhi) is a national Asian-interest sorority that was founded at UC Berkeley in 1989. AKDPhi’s mission is to promote sisterhood, scholarship, leadership, and Asian awareness in the community. The sorority is open to women of all races and ethnicities who share its values and are committed to supporting Asian-American culture and community.
Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) is a national fraternity that was founded in 1865 at the Virginia Military Institute. In 2013, SPU became the first Christian university to have an ATO chapter. ATO’s mission is to promote leadership, scholarship, service, and brotherhood among its members. ATO is open to men of all races and backgrounds who share its values and are committed to making a positive impact on their communities.
Sigma Phi Lambda (SPL) is a national Christian sorority that was founded at the University of Texas in 1988. SPL’s mission is to promote spiritual growth, academic excellence, and sisterhood among its members. The sorority is open to women of all Christian denominations who are committed to living out their faith and serving others.
Each sorority at SPU has its own unique set of membership requirements. To join AKDPhi, prospective members must be enrolled at SPU, have a minimum GPA of 2.5, and attend an information session and rush events. ATO requires prospective members to have a minimum GPA of 2.5, be in good standing with the university, and attend an information session and rush events. SPL requires prospective members to have a minimum GPA of 2.5, be actively involved in a local church, and attend an information session and rush events.
Once a prospective member has gone through the recruitment process and been offered a bid to join a sorority, they will go through a period of new member education. This period typically lasts several weeks and is designed to introduce new members to the history, values, and traditions of the sorority. New members will also participate in service projects, social events, and other activities to help them form bonds with their fellow members.
After the new member period is over, members will be initiated into the sorority and become full members. From there, they will continue to participate in service projects, social events, and other activities to support the sorority and its mission.
Overall, sororities at Seattle Pacific University offer students the opportunity to form deep friendships, develop leadership skills, and make a positive impact on their community. Each sorority has its own unique values and membership requirements, so students should research each one carefully to find the best fit for their interests and values.
