Introduction
The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is one of the most prestigious universities in the United States. It is also home to one of the most successful football programs in the nation. Every year, UCLA competes in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, which is the top tier of college football. As such, the question of whether UCLA is in a bowl game is an important one for fans, alumni, and prospective students alike. In this blog post, we’ll explore the answer to that question and take a look at some of the bowl games that UCLA has been a part of in recent years.
Bowl Games: What Are They?
A bowl game is a college football game that is played at the end of the regular season. These games are typically held in large stadiums and feature teams from the top tier of college football. The most prestigious bowl games are known as the “”New Year’s Six,”” which includes the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Peach Bowl, and Fiesta Bowl. The winner of each of these bowl games is awarded a championship trophy and is typically considered to be one of the best teams in the country.
UCLA’s Bowl Game History
UCLA has been a part of some of the most prestigious bowl games in college football history. The Bruins have appeared in the Rose Bowl a total of five times, most recently in 1999. They have also been a part of the Cotton Bowl, Sugar Bowl, and Orange Bowl, among others. In addition to these prestigious bowl games, UCLA has also been a part of the Las Vegas Bowl, Hawaii Bowl, Sun Bowl, and Holiday Bowl.
UCLA’s Recent Bowl Game Performance
Despite its impressive bowl game history, UCLA has not had much success in recent years. The Bruins have not won a bowl game since 1999, and they have only appeared in one bowl game since then (the 2017 Cactus Bowl). UCLA’s last bowl game appearance was a loss to Kansas State in the 2017 Cactus Bowl. The Bruins have not had a winning season since 2015, and they have not won more than six games in a season since 2005.
UCLA’s Prospects for 2021
The 2021 season will be an important one for UCLA. The Bruins are coming off of a 4-8 season in 2020, and they will be looking to turn things around in 2021. UCLA will be led by new head coach Chip Kelly, who is known for his innovative offensive schemes. The Bruins will also have a talented roster featuring quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson, wide receiver Kyle Philips, and running back Demetric Felton. With Kelly at the helm and a talented roster, UCLA could be poised for a successful 2021 season and a potential bowl game appearance.
