Basic med school education is completed in four years. The four-year degree course is divided into two parts: pre-clinical and clinical, known as the two plus two curricula. Following graduation, the students are a part of the residency program (which lasts 3-6 years). 

An applicant must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university within the United States before the start of orientation. If the student wishes to transfer from another college of medicine to the DO program, the following criteria must be met: 

  • You must rank in the top 50% of your current medical school class.

Admission to the program requires an interview. The interview is currently conducted asynchronously, using a competency-based, holistic approach. Des Moines University accepts new students into only one clinical program (including DO, DPM, PA, and DPT). No more than one application is considered.
