Marietta College is a small liberal arts college located in Marietta, Ohio. The college offers a range of opportunities for students to get involved in extracurricular activities, including Greek life. Sororities are an important part of the Greek community at Marietta College, and they offer students the chance to build lifelong friendships, develop leadership skills, and participate in a variety of service and philanthropic activities.

There are currently four active sororities at Marietta College: Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Sigma Kappa. Each sorority has its own unique history, values, and traditions.
Alpha Xi Delta was founded in 1893 at Lombard College in Galesburg, Illinois. The sorority’s colors are light blue, dark blue, and gold, and its symbol is the quill. The sorority’s motto is “The Pen is Mightier than the Sword,” and its philanthropic focus is Autism Speaks.
Delta Gamma was founded in 1873 at the Lewis School for Girls in Oxford, Mississippi. The sorority’s colors are bronze, pink, and blue, and its symbol is the anchor. Delta Gamma’s motto is “Do Good,” and its philanthropic focus is Service for Sight.
Kappa Alpha Theta was founded in 1870 at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. The sorority’s colors are black and gold, and its symbol is the kite. Kappa Alpha Theta’s motto is “Leading Women,” and its philanthropic focus is CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).
Sigma Kappa was founded in 1874 at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. The sorority’s colors are maroon and lavender, and its symbol is the heart. Sigma Kappa’s motto is “One Heart, One Way,” and its philanthropic focus is Alzheimer’s disease research and awareness.
Each sorority has its own chapter at Marietta College, and they are all members of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). The NPC is the governing body for 26 national and international sororities, and it promotes values-based recruitment and membership policies.
To join a sorority at Marietta College, students must participate in the formal recruitment process, which takes place in the fall semester. During recruitment, students have the opportunity to meet members of each sorority, learn about their values and philanthropic efforts, and decide which sorority is the best fit for them. After recruitment, students who receive bids from sororities may choose to accept or decline them.
Once students become members of a sorority, they participate in a variety of activities and events throughout the year. These may include sisterhood events, social events with other Greek organizations, community service projects, and philanthropic fundraisers. Sorority members are also expected to maintain a certain GPA and abide by their sorority’s values and standards.
Sororities at Marietta College offer students a unique opportunity to become part of a close-knit community, develop leadership skills, and give back to their local and global communities through philanthropic efforts. They are an integral part of the college’s vibrant Greek life community and provide students with the opportunity to create lifelong friendships and memories.
