So, get acquainted with them to avoid any unpleasant problems while boarding. In this article we shall see Aeromexico Pet Policy

Aeromexico Pet Policy

Aeromexico has a lenient policy when it comes to pets. If your pet weighs under 9kg including their carrier they can fly with you in the cabin. Otherwise, they will be transported through cargo. Service or emotional support animals are also allowed.

Conditions To Fulfill While Flying With Pets

Aeromexico lets your pet travel with you if abided by certain conditions and presented with a few documents and those are:

  • Aeromexico allows your pet in the cabin if it’s a dog or a cat.
  • They must be put in a carrier of dimension 16×12×8 inches with the carrier placed under your seat.
  • The combined weight of your pet and carrier must be below 9kg to be accepted for entry into the cabin with you.
  • Pets must be older than 2 months, and not undergoing any treatment.
  • Only Dogs will be allowed as service animals.

If your pet is not eligible to fly with you in the cabin, it still can go with you on the same flight as checked-in bags in the aircraft cargo. There are some conditions applied which are:

  • Only dogs, cats, and birds are accepted in the check-in bag.
  • Animals like rodents, fish, and reptiles need to be checked in through the cargo.
  • Animals must weigh under 45 kg with their carriers.
  • Check-in with animals must be done at least three hours before the boarding time.

Documents To Bring For Successful Check-in Of Your Pet

You need to bring along some documents with you for successful check-in at the airport. And these documents may change depending on the place you are going and its local policies regarding animals. Some of them are

  • Vaccination certificate of Rabies, Distemper, Parainfluenza, Feline viral fever (for cats only) and if others are available.
  • Deworming and delousing certificate no older than six months before boarding.
  • Certificate of good health provided by a vet doctor. The letter should be original and must contain the doctor’s work ID, owner’s name and contact number, animal’s profile, location of departure, and destination.
  • The documents needed for successful entry to the destination country must be brought along. The airline will not be liable for such cases. For example, the US does not accept entry of dogs and cats from Rabies-risk countries like Venezuela, Bolivia, Belize, Brazil, Peru, Surinam, etc.

Restrictions – Things You Should Know With Your Pet Onboard

There are some restrictions naturally if you are bringing an animal onboard. This is placed by taking both the owner’s and other passengers’ comfort into account.

  • Your pet must always be in the carrier from the time of checking in till landing.
  • All the expanse related to the pet (i.e. food, water) is the owner’s responsibility.
  • Only one animal can travel per passenger, be it a regular pet, emotional support animal, or service animal.
  • A passenger can bring an animal if only their time of flight is within six hours.
  • Passengers with animals will be assigned the window seats.
  • Pets cannot be seated on the seats allotted to the passengers in any case, even if they are empty.
  • Pet and his/her owner must fly on the same flight. Unattended minors with animals are not allowed.
  • Oxygens won’t be supplied to animals in case of any emergency.

The restrictions and regulations are exclusive to Aeromexico and any connecting flight via any other airline may be subjected to different guidelines. So you need to make sure about it before boarding.

Animals that Are Accepted:

You can only bring dogs or cats to the cabin. Otherwise, the animals that are accepted in Aeromexico vary depending on the country you’re flying to. However, most countries allow domesticated pets such as dogs and cats, birds (except toucans), rabbits and guinea pigs, ferrets and hamsters, parrots/macaws/pigeons up to a weight of 20 pounds, rodents (excluding bats), small snakes(up to 5 feet long) and lizards less than 4 inches long.

In addition to domestic animals, some countries also accept exotic animals such as monkeys, alligators, or crocodiles if they have been properly licensed and vaccinated. You are advised to check in the local embassy for specific information about importing an animal into your destination country.

Conclusion

According to some animal-lover travelers, the pet policy of Aeromexico is quite lenient and they appreciate it. While other passengers also appreciate the fact that the airline also has the guideline that if someone has any animal allergy, it will be considered seriously and the pet owner’s flight may be changed at no extra cost or penalty. So far, both types of passengers are satisfied with the current rules.
